Ashtanga Yoga: Classical Yoga Theory and Practice
This workshop will focus on the theory and practice of the Classical School of Ashtanga Yoga, including asana, pranayama, Sanskrit chanting and the yoga philosophy of Patanjali. It will help to prepare students to enter a regular study of Ashtanga Yoga through the Mysore system and will enrich the practice of students already on this classical yoga path. This will count as 20 Continuing Education units with a YACEP certified instructor for Yoga Alliance.
Carroll Ann/Prashanti Friedmann (ERYT-500, YACEP) started her yoga practice in 1998 and has been seriously studying yoga asana and philosophy since 2004. She has over 1500 hours of teacher training in the Integral Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga schools and has been training yoga teachers for 7 years. She has been trained in hatha, ashtanga, pre-natal, yoga for arthritis and scoliosis and yoga nidra. During a Ph.D. program in Religious Studies, she taught Yoga Philosophy as an adjunct at the University of Virginia for 5 years. She has assisted many of the best Ashtanga Yoga teachers in the world, including Richard Freeman, Mary Taylor and Ty Landrum. Carroll Ann has assisted and studied for 7 years with Saraswathi Jois in Mysore, India. She has studied Sanskrit chanting and yoga philosophy for 6 years with Dr. M.A. Jayashree and Prof. H. Nirasimhan of Mysore, and continues to make an annual trip to India for further study. Carroll Ann runs a 5-day-per-week Mysore program in Charlottesville, VA and co-directs annual Pre-Natal, 200-HR and 300-HR Teacher Trainings in the Krishnamacharya lineage.
